The main aims of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA) are the diffusion and promotion of the Arts, the artistic education and research, as well as the safeguarding and conservation of the movable and immovable artistic heritage.

Scenic Arts

Within the scope of the Scenic Arts the Institute holds a set of enclosures and concert halls in Mexico City that offer a great variety of artistic expressions.

The artistic groups of the INBA are shaped by musicians, dancers, singers and actors of great quality and international competitive position.

It is right to recognize the effort and dedication of managers, choreographers, theatrical designers, wardrobe staff, lighting operators, make-up personnel, and scenery workers that add their efforts to spread and to impel the diverse artistic expressions of our country.

Dance

Dance has a preeminent place in universal culture. Its different expressions, such as ballet, contemporary, popular and folkloric dance, offer a wide panorama that embodies the unique view of each culture.

The Coordinación Nacional de Danza of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes promotes and spreads the creation and the presentation of dance spectacles, with the purpose of encouraging its development. Proposes as its main challenge is to join efforts to response to the needs that the professional evolution of the dance requires, through operative programs that allow excellence.

Compañía Nacional de Danza. It is the more representative company of classic ballet in the country, by its conformation, its dimensions and their repertoire. It represents Mexico with the best of dance, classic as much as contemporary, national and internationally.

Continuing Education. Because of the corporal, academic and intellectual works of the dance are in constant happening, this program tries to update and to reinforce the technical bases, as well as to develop an intellectual and global formation, where the executants, creators and teachers have a diversity of resources and tools that reinforce their formation and development.

Music and Opera

The Coordinación Nacional de Música y Ópera (CNMO) is the area in charge of the promotion and spreading of the musical and operatic repertoire by means of the organization of cycles, festivals, conferences and similar activities, as well as special projects. Also, it stimulates the improvement of the execution and foments the creation with the purpose of increasing the cultural heritage of the country.

Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional. The Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional (OSN) was instituted in 1928, when Carlos Chávez founded the Orquesta Sinfónica de México, which was essential for the development of Mexican music. Its work was extensive, diverse, and it can be considered like an immense and fruitful artistic and social phenomenon.

Orquesta de Cámara de Bellas Artes. The Orquesta de Cámara de Bellas Artes (OCBA) arises in 1956 supported by lnstituto Nacional de Bellas Artes with the name of Orquesta Yolopatli, formed by the most excellent students of the teachers Smilowitz and Hartman from the Conservatorio Nacional de Música.

Compañía Nacional de Ópera. With the purpose of satisfying the expectations of the Mexican public, in 1943 the civil association Ópera Nacional was created, supported by the bank and the Mexican Government. It was one of the first institutions that organized opera seasons with regularity in Mexico.

Theater

The Coordinación Nacional de Teatro has as mission the promotion and diffusion of the theater art. Its task is fulfilled through different programs and activities to create the propitious atmosphere for the development of the professional theater production. The Coordinación Nacional de Teatro satisfies diverse necessities of the creative processes of the artists as well as the worries of the public. This direction is the reason of being of an Institution of this nature.

Compañía Nacional de Teatro. The Compañía Nacional de Teatro was created on July 20th 1977 as representative of the Teatro Nacional. It leads the national theater activity through the selection of plays and the creative staffs that participate in each staging. The Compañía had established a balance between the national and international dramatic art, between the classic style and the avant-gard. In addition it is an education instrument, of promotion, but mainly of development of the theater culture of the country, as much for the artists as for the spectators.

Visual Arts

Museums and galleries

In the area of Visual Arts, there is a series of museums and galleries in Mexico City which offer a Greta variety of artistic expressions.

These spaces are themselves buildings of great historic and artistic value, such as Museo Nacional de Arte, Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes, Museo Nacional de San Carlos, Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo, Museo de Arte Moderno and Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo, to name a few. All are work of great masters and Adamo Boari, Federico Mariscal, Silvio Conti and Manuel Tolsá, or great representative of Mexican architecture in Twentieth Century as Juan O’ Gorman, Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, Teodoro González de León and Abraham Zabludovsky.

But the riches of INBA’s presents is not constituted only by the historic and architectural value of its buildings, but also by giving safeguard and custody to many important cultural wealth of national and international artistic creation, with representative works of diverse artistic trends of modern art history in Mexico and world.

In addition, the permanent work of artists, museum technicians and curators, from Mexico and different latitudes, who constantly join their efforts to spread and show the most diverse expressions and trends of universal art.
